How much is the university grant now?

For graduation students whose course runs longer than 30 months (a licence is 36 months), the grant is 2,000 DA a month, or 6,000 DA a quarter. Décret exécutif n° 23-380 of 25 October 2023 raised it from 1,350 DA, with effect from 1 October 2023. Doctoral students receive 12,000 DA a month, and master's or magister students a study and research allocation of 5,850 DA (1st year) or 7,200 DA (2nd year) per quarter.

What is the parental income ceiling?

Parents' combined net monthly income must not exceed ten (10) times the SNMG, up from eight (8) times before the 2023 amendment. With the SNMG at 24,000 DA for 2026, the ceiling is 240,000 DA a month. Because the bands are expressed as multiples of the SNMG rather than fixed amounts, the thresholds rise automatically each time the SNMG does.

When is the grant application filed?

From 1 to 15 September each year, online on the PROGRES platform (progres.mesrs.dz/webetu), at the same time as university transport and accommodation requests. Miss the window and the entitlement is lost for that year, with no possibility of back-payment.

Question 4

Which documents are required?

Accepted Answer

For the student: university registration certificate, baccalauréat transcript, national ID copy, certificate of non-taxation and one photo. For the parents: annual salary statement and certificate of non-taxation if salaried; activity certificate and cleared tax extract (extrait de rôle apuré) for merchants and liberal professions; certificate of non-employment if not working. A divorce judgment copy or death certificate is added where relevant. Note that if a parent works in higher education or national education, a work certificate alone is enough.

Why does course length change the amount?

Because décret 23-380 ties the 2,000 DA figure explicitly to a course lasting more than 30 months. Most graduation courses clear that bar — a licence is 36 months — so it is the ordinary case. Courses of 30 months or less remain on the two earlier bands: 1,350 DA where parental income is below 4 × the SNMG, and 1,200 DA where it is at or below 7 ×.

Does the doctoral grant depend on parental income?

No. It sits in articles 17 and 19 bis of décret 90-170, neither of which imposes a parental-income condition: article 16's ten-times-SNMG ceiling governs the graduation grant and the master's or magister study allocation. The doctoral grant is 12,000 DA a month.

How is the grant paid?

Accepted Answer

It used to be paid quarterly and is now paid monthly, on the 18th of each month, across licence, master's and doctoral levels. Article 4 of décret 90-170 provides for monthly or quarterly payment, in arrears. This calculator shows both the monthly and the quarterly figure.

Question 8

Is the grant renewed automatically?

Accepted Answer

No. The file must be renewed every year at the start of the academic year. The grant runs for the length of the course, may be extended by a single additional year if the student repeats, and is suspended for serious disciplinary misconduct. It also excludes any other financial allocation, save for exceptions set out in the regulations.
