What is the national qualifications framework (CNC)?

A national tool launched by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to describe and classify Algerian higher-education degrees on a unified 8-level scale, making them easier to read and compare at home and abroad. Occupations in it are aligned with the ILO's international ISCO-08 standard.

Which levels does this classification cover?

The framework scale has 8 levels. The official site currently classifies higher-education degrees from level 5 (DEUA) to level 8 (doctorate and equivalents), across three branches: technological and human sciences, health sciences, and national education.

Which competencies come with each degree?

Each degree in the framework carries a five-axis competency profile: knowledge, skills, behaviours, communication, and autonomy – responsibility. The full detail is available on the official site cnc.mesrs.dz, in the "Know your degree's level" tool.

Is this classification official and final?

The classification is published on the framework's official MESRS site (cnc.mesrs.dz), currently a beta version open to enrichment and updates. We revise this tool with every official update.

What is the CNC level used for?

It gives degrees a unified reading, useful for comparing paths, equivalence and recognition files, grading at recruitment, and academic and professional mobility in Algeria and abroad – notably with the Arab, African and European qualifications frameworks.

Q: Is a master's equivalent to a state-engineer degree?

In the framework's classification, yes: master's, state engineer, architect and DPGS all sit at level 7. But sharing a CNC level does not automatically grant administrative equivalence in civil-service statutes and grading – that remains governed by each corps' own regulations.
